A round of updates....

I've been busy sewing and being a mommy that I haven't had the time to blog. I need to make time as I really do enjoy keeping everyone updated on what is going on with my business.

I'm going to be moving around my inventory today so if you see something you like and it disappears....check my other site. I'm also going to be working on better pictures and descriptions for everything so it may take me a few days to get everything re-listed.

From now on I'm going to be stocking mostly appliqued items on Hyena Cart and keep everything else on Etsy so it reaches a bigger audience. I will be stocking a handful of appliqued bibs and burp cloths on Hyena Cart next Tuesday.

Snowflakes on the road!

Snowflakes went offline and on the road today.

We had a table at the Woolwich Day's craft fair and did much better than I would have ever imagined. For the size of the crowd and the specific audience of our product lines we did really well. It was fun meeting local moms/grandmothers and talking cloth diapers. The boys were great all day and I had lots of help from my mother and father to make the day a great success.

While there my mom and I daydreamed about our plans for this holiday season. I'd really love to get a table at a few local craft fairs. I guess with Christmas less than 5 months away I should get on that.

Craft Fair.

I'm getting ready for my first craft fair. Which means my online stocking/listings have come to a halt. Please convo me through Etsy or email me through my blog if you are interested in a custom order. I have 2 slots available with another one opening up later this week.

Busy week + holiday =

Not much new at the stocking. I had hoped to do a few more appliqued items but....time just ran out.

I am going to take next week off and re-stock in two weeks. I'll leave what is up now until then.

Why prefolds? Why wovens? Why pins?

Three questions I get asked often:

Why prefolds?

Although I love fitteds...I will never have enough money to afford a stash big enough to use only fitteds (the ones I prefer are in the $22-35 range). Prefolds do the same job at a fraction of the cost. So why do I sell expensive prefolds? Because even prefold loving moms want cuteness and color too. I have a love of fabric and a love of prefolds....selling embellished prefolds is not only something I know how to make well....but something I use.

Why wovens?

Why do I use woven fabric when knits are "hot" in the cloth diapering world.....because I prefer the prints I find on wovens AND the fact that they look newer longer. If I'm going to sell a pretty diaper....I want it to stay pretty. Not look faded and worn after the first 10 washes. Yes wovens do fade but not as fast as knits do. Ribbed knits especially drive me nuts...when they get pulled and it makes lines in the design...not cute. Especially when you're paying $30+ for the diaper.

Why pins?

I love snappi's too but if you're going to use cute prefolds coverless...it is safer to pin. Even snappi warns on it's packaging to cover the snappi so the child is not injured by it. Snappi's (like all rubber bands) wear out and break/snap on occasion. I've had a snappi break...but never a pin. Pinning is easy but it does take a bit of practice on a non-wiggly baby. I practiced on a teddy bear until I felt comfortable to pin regularly on my boys. I pin most of the time now since it's summer and we're coverless almost all day long.

I put up some previews already for next week's HC stocking. I marked down a bunch of stuff I have in-stock to hopefully make room for new. I'm running out of storage space.

I'll be listing a couple custom slots, a couple appliqued prefolds and will also be launching the Snowflakes Burp Cloth line.

Prefold Testers

Getting ready for Tuesday.

I'm stocking at a new time on Tuesday, 10AM EDT. I know it's early for you west coasters...but waiting all day for the 7PM stocking was horrible for my nerves. I just sat around worrying all day long.

I put up a FFS lottery already and one more FFS lottery will be added on Tuesday.

I hope to have tomorrow's HC previews up tonight, but it might not be until tomorrow morning. I'm plugging away...one diaper/burp cloth at a time.

I'm changing my mind. :-D About the 24th stocking. It was going to be "Beach" themed...but I can't find the fabric I need (a cute palm tree print) so I'm going to just do a small stocking that day and concentrate on some customs.

Change Of Plans

The diaper I made last night is not going to go on Etsy after all. I'm going to save it for my next Hyena Cart stocking. I'm going to do a theme stocking. I'll be dropping clues throughout the next few days as to what the theme will be. The theme will be unveiled on the 17th.

As far as Etsy goes....I'm not sure what to stock there. I need to put more thought into it I guess.

All previews are up and I finally added the last FFS Lottery.

I have a few prefolds left and I picked up some new fabric yesterday. I am going to try and get those sewn up and listed on Etsy this weekend.

A day behind.

A little thief snatched the memory card out of the front of my computer yesterday so I'm a day behind on preview pictures. I should be caught up this evening.

I completed 3 appliqued diapers last night. My job for today is to get them up on Hyena Cart for previews. I might even list one of them on Etsy. It's a second that pains me. The applique came out perfect but I sewed the matching print panel on upside down. Oops!

Hyena Cart

I'm working on getting the store set up so don't be surprised if it looks different everytime you refresh the page. LOL I keep changing things around and still have to figure out how to put items into stock.

June 17th?

Does that sound good? I'm thinking my parents 30th Wedding Anniversary would be a perfect day to go live with my Hyena Cart.

I dyed up a bunch of prefolds last night and matched up what fabrics I want to go with them this morning. I will be pinning and sewing them up later tonight. My goal is to have a dozen to stock on the 17th and have enough left so I can offer up a custom slot or two.

If you have any suggestions or requests for fabrics please add it in the comments section of this post and I will certainly listen. :-)

Minor set back.

Green Mountain Diapers does not endorse the dying of their prefold diapers.

I emailed them to see if I could include a link to their site for sizing purposes and was asked not to because they do not endorse dying of prefolds.

I will be researching more the effects of dyed diapers but after my first stocking on Hyena Cart...all GMD prefolds will be sold undyed. I dyed quite a few last night so what I stock (most likely on June 17th) will be IT for dyed GMD's.

I am looking into other vendors to satisfy the dyed prefold niche as I love dyed prefolds and plan to continue offering them. I will continue to dye my boys diapers until I find evidence that shows me that it is in-fact harmful.

Prefolds are in!!

The Green Mountain Diapers prefolds have arrived!! They are prepping in the wash as I type. I hope to dye up a few of the reds, embellish them, and get them stocking on Etsy by Friday. Wish me luck!
